🏠 1. Hometown
What kind of place is your hometown?
Da Lat is a small city in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is renowned for its cool weather and beautiful scenery. The city center is getting more bustling because of tourism.
What are the most interesting things to do there?
There are loads of great things to do, such as visiting the night market and trying local street food. I would strongly recommend visiting some fancy coffee shops. It's definitely worth visiting.
Would you say it is a good or bad place to live?
Although there are some drawbacks like fewer IT jobs, I'm a massive fan of the cool weather. However, in the distant future, I might be tempted to relocate for my career.
How do you travel around your hometown?
I generally tend to travel by motorbike. It's reasonably cheap and convenient. The roads can get congested during rush hour near the center.
Would you prefer to live in a bigger or smaller place?
Despite the fact that I can see the pluses of living here, I'll need to move for IT jobs. But as I get older, I think I'll end up coming back to Da Lat.
What kind of jobs do people do there?
There is a mixture of jobs. Firstly, many residents are employed in tourism. In addition, many work in agriculture on the outskirts of the city.
🏘️ 2. Area where you live
Do you like the area that you live in?
Yes, I quite like it. I live near my university in Da Lat, so it's very convenient. The area is quiet and surrounded by pine trees, which makes it comfortable for a student.
Where do you like to go in this area?
I often go to coffee shops near campus because they're great for studying. I also enjoy walking around Xuan Huong Lake in the evening when the weather is cool.
Do you know any famous people in your area?
To be honest, I don't know any really famous people. However, Da Lat is well-known for some local artists who are inspired by the city's beautiful landscape.
What are some changes in the area recently?
Many new coffee shops and hotels have been built because of growing tourism. The roads have also been improved, which is good for getting around.
Do you know any of your neighbours?
Yes, most of them are also university students. We sometimes help each other with small things, which is nice.
🏡 3. Accommodation
How long have you lived there?
I've lived in my current place for about two or three years, since I started university. It's a rented room near campus.
What do you like about living there?
It's close to my university and quiet, which is important for studying, especially when I have programming projects to work on late at night.
What sort of accommodation would you most like to live in?
I'd love a small apartment with good internet and a workspace for my computer. As a software engineer, having a comfortable place to work from home would be really important.
📖 4. Study
What do you study?
I study Software Engineering at Dalat University. It covers programming, web development, databases, and how to build software applications.
Where do you study?
At Dalat University in Da Lat city. The campus is surrounded by pine trees and the weather is always cool, so it's comfortable for studying.
Do you think this is a good place to study?
Yes. The quiet atmosphere helps me concentrate and the cost of living is lower than big cities. The only downside is fewer tech companies for internships.
Have you always wanted to study this?
Not exactly. When I was younger, I didn't know about software engineering. But once I started using computers, I became interested in how apps work.
What is the most interesting part of your study?
Building actual projects — writing code and seeing it become a working application. It's really satisfying to see my ideas come to life.
Is there anything you don't like about your study?
The workload can be heavy. Many assignments at the same time is stressful. Some subjects like advanced math are challenging too.
What are your study plans for the future?
After graduation, I want to find a software developer job, probably in Ho Chi Minh City. I also plan to keep improving my English.
🎮 5. Free time
What do you usually do in your free time?
I usually watch tech videos on YouTube or play video games to relax. Sometimes I go to coffee shops with friends. I also spend time learning new programming languages for fun.
Have your free-time activities changed since you were a child?
Yes, definitely. As a child, I played outside — riding bikes and playing football. Now I spend more time on my computer, either studying or doing coding projects.
Do you prefer spending your free time alone or with others?
It depends on my mood. Sometimes I prefer being alone for coding or reading. But I also enjoy hanging out with friends. I'd say it's about fifty-fifty.
Is it important to have free time every day?
Yes, very important. Without it, people feel stressed and burned out. Even 30 minutes of relaxation can make a big difference for studying.
📸 6. Photography
Do you like taking photos?
Yes, I enjoy it. Living in Da Lat, there are many beautiful places to photograph. I usually just use my phone camera though.
What do you usually take photos of?
Mostly scenery and food. Da Lat has amazing views, and I often photograph food at new restaurants — that's pretty common among young people.
Have you ever had your photo professionally taken?
Only for official documents like my university ID. I haven't done a proper photoshoot for fun, but maybe someday.
Do you prefer to take photos or be in them?
I prefer taking photos. I'm a bit shy in front of the camera. I enjoy finding good angles, especially of Da Lat's natural scenery.
🛒 7. Shopping
Do you enjoy shopping?
Not really. As a student, I only buy things when I need them. But I enjoy browsing online for tech gadgets and computer accessories.
What kinds of things do you usually buy?
Mostly daily necessities like food. Sometimes tech items like USB cables or laptop accessories. Occasionally clothes, but not often.
Have your shopping habits changed recently?
Yes, I shop online more now, especially on Shopee. It's convenient — I can compare prices easily and get things delivered to my door.
Do you prefer online or in-store shopping?
Online for most things because it saves time. But for clothes and food, I prefer physical stores because I want to see and try things first.
🐾 8. Pets
Do you like animals?
Yes, especially dogs and cats. In Da Lat, I often see stray cats at coffee shops, and I enjoy watching them.
Have you ever had a pet?
My family had a dog when I was younger. Since moving to Da Lat for university, I can't keep a pet in my rented room.
What kinds of pets are common in your country?
Dogs and cats are most common. Recently, smaller pets like hamsters and fish have become popular among young people too.
Would you like to have a pet in the future?
Yes, I'd love a cat once I have my own apartment. Cats are quiet and independent, which would suit my lifestyle as a developer.
🍳 9. Cooking
Do you enjoy cooking?
I don't cook often. As a student, I usually eat at the university canteen or small restaurants — it's cheap and convenient in Da Lat.
How often do you cook?
Maybe once or twice a week, usually on weekends when I have more time. During the week, I'm too busy with assignments.
What kind of food do you usually cook?
Simple dishes like fried rice, instant noodles, or eggs. Sometimes I try Vietnamese food my mom taught me, but it never tastes as good as hers.
Who taught you how to cook?
My mom taught me basic cooking before I left home — rice, soups, fried eggs. I'm grateful because it helps me survive as a student living alone.
💎 10. Jewelry
Do you often wear jewelry?
Not really. The most I'd wear is a simple watch. In the IT field, people dress simply.
What type of jewelry do you like?
Simple, modern designs. A nice watch or a plain bracelet. Nothing too flashy.
Do you usually buy jewelry?
Rarely. Sometimes I buy small pieces as gifts for family on special occasions like Tet.
Why do you think some people wear jewelry for a long time?
Sentimental value. A wedding ring or necklace from someone special reminds them of important moments, so they keep wearing it.

Part 2 — Long Turn

3–4 phút • 8 Cue Cards • Nói "như đang kể chuyện" • Cần 200+ từ

💬

7 Câu mở đầu Part 2 (học 2–3 câu)

"I'd like to talk about..." ← dễ nhất, dùng mọi lúc
"The one I'd like to tell you about is..."
"Let me tell you about..."
📎 "My favourite was..." | "Personally, I would have to say..." | "The one who/that stands out is..." | "I'm going to tell you about..."
👤 1. Người truyền cảm hứng
Describe a person who inspired you to do something new.Who this person is • How you know them • What new thing you did • How this person inspired you
Keywords:senior / IT club — web dev — first website — passion, patient
I'd like to talk about a senior student who inspired me to learn web development. His name is Minh, the leader of our IT club at Dalat University. I met him in my first year.

He organized workshops teaching us HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He was very patient and always helped when I had questions. What impressed me was his passion — he spent hours helping students even with his own assignments.

Because of him, I built my first simple website. It wasn't perfect, but I felt really proud. He showed me that with hard work, anyone can learn something new. I'm grateful because web development is now one of my favourite parts of my study.
😂 2. Người hài hước
Describe a person who has a great sense of humor.Who the person is • How you know them • What they do to make people laugh • Why you think they are funny
Keywords:classmate Hung — same IT class — impressions, funny stories — natural, positive
Let me tell you about my classmate Hung, one of the funniest people I know. We've been in the same Software Engineering class since first year.

He has a talent for telling stories in a funny way. He imitates our professors — in a friendly way — and everyone laughs. He also makes funny comments about coding, like comparing debugging to finding a needle in a haystack.

He's funny because his humor is natural and he never tries too hard. He also knows when to be serious. His humor makes our stressful university life more bearable.
🌿 3. Nơi yên tĩnh
Describe a quiet place you like to spend time in.Where it is • How often you go • What you do there • Why you like it
Keywords:coffee shop near uni — 3x/week — code, study — quiet, cool weather, focus
I'd like to talk about a small coffee shop near my university. It's on a quiet street, five minutes' walk from campus. I go about three times a week.

I usually bring my laptop and work on programming assignments or read tech articles. The shop has good Wi-Fi and comfortable chairs, perfect for studying.

I like it because it's quiet and the cool Da Lat weather makes sitting by the window with coffee while coding very comfortable. It helps me concentrate much better than studying at home.
👥 4. Nơi đông người
Describe a place you went to that was full of people.Where it was • Why you went • What it was like • How you felt
I'm going to tell you about the Da Lat night market. I went last month with classmates for street food. It was packed — both tourists and locals.

There were food stalls everywhere selling grilled corn, bánh tráng nướng (a type of Vietnamese rice paper pizza), and hot soy milk. The atmosphere was lively with bright lights and music.

I felt a mix of excitement and discomfort — fun to see different foods, but tiring squeezing through the crowd. Despite this, the food was delicious and I enjoyed the experience.
🎁 5. Món quà ý nghĩa
Describe a gift you received that was very meaningful. What it was • Who gave it • When you received it • Why it was meaningful
The one I'd like to tell you about is a laptop my parents gave me when I started university, about three years ago. It was expensive for my family — they saved for a long time.

As a software engineering student, I use it every day for programming and assignments. I literally cannot study without it.

It's meaningful because it shows how much my parents support my education. Every time I open it, I feel motivated to study harder and make them proud. The best gifts come from the heart.
📰 6. Tin tốt
Describe a piece of good news you received. What the news was • When/how you received it • Why it was good news
I'd like to talk about passing a very difficult programming exam. I got the result through the university's online system about two weeks after the exam.

I was so relieved and happy. I immediately called my parents and shared in my class group chat. Everyone congratulated me.

It was important because I studied very hard and many students failed. Passing meant I was on track to graduate on time, and it gave me confidence in my abilities.
🎉 7. Sự kiện vui
Describe an event you attended that made you feel happy. What it was • When/where • Who was there • Why it made you happy
I'd like to talk about a technology workshop my IT club organized at Dalat University last semester. About fifty students attended, plus a guest speaker from a tech company.

He shared his experience working in the IT industry and gave career advice. The best part was working in teams to build a simple app in two hours.

It made me happy because I learned something practical, met people who share my interest, and it reminded me why I chose software engineering.
🏆 8. Cuộc thi
Describe a competition you took part in.What it was • When/where • What you had to do • How you felt
I'm going to tell you about a coding competition at Dalat University. We worked in teams of three, solving algorithm problems in three hours.

I was nervous at first, but as we started working together, I felt more confident. We didn't win first place but finished in the top five.

It taught me about teamwork and staying calm under pressure. Competitions push students to improve — even losing teaches valuable lessons.

Part 3 — Discussion

4–5 phút • 8 nhóm • Nói 4–6 câu/câu hỏi

💡 Cấu trúc: Ý kiến → Lý do → Ví dụ → (Tùy chọn: mặt đối lập)
👤 1. Inspiration
What qualities do inspiring people often have?
I think they usually have passion and determination. They're hard-working and good at communicating. For example, my senior was inspiring because he was patient and willing to share knowledge.
Why do people need inspiration in life?
Inspiration helps people stay motivated and set goals. Without it, life feels boring. When I see successful developers, it motivates me to study harder.
Are famous people always good role models?
Not necessarily. Some promote unhealthy lifestyles. Ordinary people like good teachers or parents can be better role models because their actions are more genuine.
How can teachers inspire students?
By showing passion for their subject, making lessons interesting, and encouraging students to try without fear of mistakes. The best teachers relate lessons to real life.
😂 2. Humor
Is humor important in the workplace?
Yes, it reduces stress and creates a friendly environment. People who laugh together work better as a team. But it's important to know when jokes are appropriate.
Do people in your country enjoy comedy shows?
Yes, comedy is very popular in Vietnam. Shows like "Táo Quân" during Tet are watched by millions. Young people also watch comedy on YouTube and TikTok.
Can humor help in serious situations?
Sometimes, if used carefully. A little humor can relax people during stressful times. But joking about very serious topics can be offensive.
How does humor differ across cultures?
What's funny in Vietnam might not be funny elsewhere. Vietnamese enjoy wordplay based on our language. Cultural background and social norms shape humor differently.
🌿 3. Quiet Places
Why is it important to have quiet places in cities?
People need somewhere to relax and escape noise. Parks, libraries, and quiet cafés give people a chance to recharge their energy and think clearly.
How does noise affect people's health?
It can cause sleep problems, headaches, and stress. Long-term loud noise can damage hearing. This is especially a problem in big cities with constant traffic.
Are people today more stressed than in the past?
I would imagine so. Modern life is fast-paced with pressure from work, study, and social media. Technology made life easier but also increased stress.
Do young people prefer noisy places?
It depends. Many enjoy clubs and concerts for fun, but most also need quiet places to study. As a student, I actually prefer quiet environments most of the time.
👥 4. Crowded Places
Why do people like crowded places like festivals?
The atmosphere and energy. Being surrounded by people who share the same interest creates community and excitement. A concert crowd makes the experience much more memorable.
Are crowded places always enjoyable?
Not always. Long queues, noise, and difficulty moving can be uncomfortable. Safety can be a concern too. It depends on the situation.
What are the disadvantages of living in a crowded city?
Traffic congestion, air pollution, higher costs, and more stress. On the other hand, crowded cities offer more jobs and services.
How can cities manage large crowds better?
Better public transport, technology like crowd-level apps, and organizing events across different locations to spread out crowds.
🎁 5. Gifts
Why do people give gifts?
To show love, appreciation, and respect. In Vietnamese culture, gifts maintain good relationships, especially during Tet and weddings.
What makes a gift special?
The thought behind it, not the price. A gift that shows the giver understands your needs is much more meaningful than something expensive chosen randomly.
Are handmade gifts better than store-bought ones?
In many ways, yes — they show time and effort. But sometimes store-bought items are more practical. What matters most is the intention.
Do children understand the value of gifts?
Young children probably don't fully understand the meaning. But as they grow older, they appreciate the thought behind gifts. Parents can help by teaching gratitude.
📰 6. Good News
How do people usually share good news in your country?
Many call family first because family is important in Vietnam. Young people share on Facebook or Zalo. Some prefer telling friends in person.
Is it better to hear good news in person or through social media?
In person is better — you can share the moment together. But social media is convenient for sharing with many people at once.
Why do people like to share good news?
It makes them happier when others celebrate with them. Sharing creates positive atmosphere and strengthens relationships.
Can good news ever make others feel bad?
Unfortunately, yes. If someone is struggling, hearing about another's success might make them jealous or sad. So it's important to be sensitive about timing.
🎉 7. Events
Why do people like attending events?
Events provide a break from routine and a chance to have fun. In Vietnam, events like Tet bring families and communities together.
Are family events more meaningful than public events?
Family events are more personally meaningful. But public events connect people to their culture. Both have value.
What role does tradition play in celebrations?
Very important, especially in Vietnam. During Tet, cleaning houses, cooking special food, and visiting relatives — these traditions make celebrations meaningful.
How has the way people celebrate changed recently?
Technology changed a lot — sharing on social media, virtual events since the pandemic. But the core — being with people you care about — hasn't changed.
🏆 8. Competition
Is competition good for people?
Healthy competition motivates people to improve. But too much causes stress. There needs to be a balance.
Are children under too much pressure to compete?
In Vietnam, yes. Parents want children to be the best, which can be overwhelming. Children also need time to play and enjoy childhood.
What are the benefits of competitions?
Problem-solving, time management, teamwork, and confidence. Even losing teaches valuable lessons — I learned this from my coding competition.
How can competitions build teamwork?
Team members learn to communicate, share ideas, and value different skills. Competition pressure forces teams to work efficiently — skills useful in the workplace.
